GOS=Wal-Mart

November 2, 2007

Ha! I knew it! Enter google, the Linux distro. For 200 bucks you can have you very own computer thatr runs any and every goole app with ease. Now seriously, a google PC?! At Wal-Mart?! Oh man. The details on this thing are this, stripped down Linux with a touch of google (GOS), simple hardware (although no real detail on that, but assuming it only runs simple programs it shouldn’t be much), 200 bucks for everything but a monitor and its all going to be at you local Wal-Mart. I really do not see a piont to this. For 200 to 300 more anyone can get a fully functional Windows machine, including a monitor. But on a plus side, it is another good push to mainstream open source OS’s. That would be a site to see, at Wal-Mart walking and laying your eyes on a Linux box next to a Windows box. Sweetness.

Thanks.

Linus and Chuck

November 1, 2007

People pray to Jesus, but Jesus prays to Linus Torvalds.

There’s more….

Google is now my god. I cant tell you how I will be worshiping him (cough*adstuff*cough) but I do know he is the high ruler of all that is web (2.0). While I do support its web docs program to be a small diversion of the giant Office, I think to myself (what a wonderful world) what if one identity oversaw everything on the web? E-mail, search, video, blogs, web 2.0 apps (this is sounding familiar) all from this one presence off the web. Even the smaller web services that make our experiences great every time we get on could be apart of google. Would this integration have a bad impact on how we interact with each other and the web? I want to say no. I think it will ensure constancy throughout different aspects. Given there will still be a ton of other options to do just about everything and anything, google will have the standard to which others will be tested against. And maybe with all these free services from google, they will transcend into the open source market developing a Linux distro (google+Linux=Gonux?).

On the end note, I just cannot wait for my grubby hands get a hold of the google phone, because life will not be complete until google has been in my pockets.

Linux and more…

Ever since I have been using Ubuntu, I seem to be spending less and less time in Windows. This is the first distro I have used that everything has worked, even without being in the shell 24/7. In fact, the only time I actually used that was to change permissions on a file. On top of that, I used KDE instead of Gnome when I was using Suse but now with Ubuntu I’m using Gnome and I love it. It really is friggin sweet.
